TItle/Credits/Border Design by Petit Coeur

Working with Rosemary is always a dream, so I was enormously excited to tackle what many consider to be Kon’s masterpiece with her. The design she came up with beautifully captures the many faces of the film. It’s disorienting — in line with the Chiyoko’s experience drifting through memories — yet it’s also not overwhelming.

The values of the poster are carefully balanced, so as to ensure the central figure remains a focal point. It’s a sanctuary amidst the chaos of her life.

Even with the illustration done though, the poster still felt incomplete. Petit’s work designing a title and credits treatments truly tied it all together. The script of the title evokes a movie star’s signature, as does the glittery gold of fame and success. The border is my favorite touch, balancing the composition while still feeling fully integrated with the rest of the artwork.
