MISS FORTUNE

To refresh my Photoshop and design skills, I decided to design posters for my last few short films. Miss Fortune was my junior thesis at LMU, and thanks to my amazing BTS photographer Charlie Zehner, I had some great stills to build a poster around here.

There were some photos that I felt were more ‘obvious’ choices for a poster, which discouraged me from choosing them. Ultimately I wanted something that captured the essence of the film, that mystery with an aura of playfulness. And this photo Charlie shot really stood out to me.

Part of what worked for me so well was the depth here. The blinds blurring in the foreground turn into these almost abstract light trails, Zoë is sharp in the middle-ground, and finally that Neon Eye in the background gives some nice color contrast. The light really has a magical quality, an entrancing glow I wanted to amplify. For the title I went for a typeface that would fit with tarot, and placed it in the bottom left to create a triangle with Zoë’s face and the eye.
