Kilian Eng is generally regarded as one of the most skilled illustrators working today. I never thought I’d have the chance to work with him, but had long dreamed of the possibility.

When I did finally build the confidence to reach out, I was thrilled to find he was interested in working together. I suggested a few titles I felt he’d be a good match for, and eventually we landed on Steven Spielberg’s under-appreciated remake of War of the Worlds.

The film had very little alternative poster art made for it prior, so we had freedom to explore. Kilian and I both felt that with all the amazing set-pieces, there was plenty of imagery to work with. Ultimately, we chose a classic concept that emphasized the scale of these alien beings and the powerlessness of the humans in their way. A haunting spectacle.

The fire was an addition I suggested, as a way of breathing more life into the poster. Kilian embraced the idea wholeheartedly. He’s a great collaborator, and I hope to work with him again.
